Maker of percussion rifles

I've got the following information oa a descendant of Louis A Latil:

"He is the grandson of Alexandre Latil of New Orleans as well as the famous Jean Phillip de Goujon de Grondel and Charles du Disne. My Great Grandfather designed and invented a 6 chamber revolving rifle and gun abt 1830-31 in Baton Rouge.

My Latil family in Baton Rouge had a long history of gunsmithing."

In the Army and Navy Chronicle, Volume VI, January 1, to June 30,. 1838 (Harvard College Library) following entry was found:

"New Rifle. - We saw yesterday, a new invention of that ingenious mechanic and valuable citizen, Mr. Louis A. Latil. It was a rifle made on the most simple plan imaginalbe, and yet so ingeniously constructed as to enable a soldier or sportsman to charge and discharge it about six times, while an ordinary gun would be undergoing the operation once. Mr. Latil has already take the necessary steps for obtaining a paten; and we have no doubt of his marking his fortune in manufacturing this improved rifle. The piece itself is a beautiful specimen of complete workmanship. We are also favoured with the sight of a pistol not yet finished, which we are confident will do credit to the skilful inventor. It is also on a new plan, and different from the rifle. - Baton Rouge Gazette"

No patent for Louis A. Latil or a picture of that gun could be found.
